No prior sketch writing experience is necessary -- the only requirement for this class is a desire to write and learn. Students should have access to a computer and printer and be prepared to work outside of class, preparing sketches for presentation in every class. Students will be required to see two live sketch shows before the end of the course.

Jesse Esparza, teacher
Jesse Esparza is an actor, writer, and comedian from Sacramento, California. He moved to Los Angeles in 2009 where he began studying at UCB.
Jesse is currently a writer on ABC's "Mixed-ish".
In addition, his work has been featured on CollegeHumor, Funny or Die, and Facebook Watch.
Jesse is one of 8 writers chosen for the prestigious Disney ABC Writers Program. He was a finalist for the 2018 Imagine Impact Writers Program, and was chosen as one of 10 for the 2017 NHMC Writers Program. He also wrote for the 2015 CBS Diversity Showcase, with his sketch "Helen Keller Party Girl."
His UCB credits include "Tonya Harding The Musical" which was written up in E! News Online, The New York Times, LAist, and more; and was featured in an episode of Live From E!
Jesse directed the UCB Maude team Emerald. His other UCB credits include his pilot turned stage show, "CarteLOL"; UCB Maude teams Bombardier and ALL IN; and UCB Mess Hall team Bad Seed.
Jesse got a call back for Harold auditions once in 2011.
