Sketch 201: Writer's Room

Students must bring a sketch to the FIRST session of class. This sketch should be no longer than four pages. This first sketch should be written utilizing the concept of the "Game of the Scene," taught in Sketch 101. Students should be prepared to devote time outside of class to completing new writing assignments for every session.
The class will end with each student receiving individual feedback from the instructor on their own sketch packet.
Students will be required to see two live sketch shows before the end of the course.
Jesse Esparza, teacher
Jesse Esparza is an actor, writer, and comedian from Sacramento, California. He moved to Los Angeles in 2009 where he began studying at UCB.
Jesse's work has been featured on CollegeHumor, Funny or Die, and Facebook Watch.
Jesse is currently one of 8 writers chosen for the prestigious Disney ABC Writers Program. He was a finalist for the 2018 Imagine Impact Writers Program, and was chosen as one of 10 for the 2017 NHMC Writers Program. He also wrote for the 2015 CBS Diversity Showcase, with his sketch "Helen Keller Party Girl."
His UCB credits include "Tonya Harding The Musical" which was written up in E! News Online, The New York Times, LAist, and more; and was featured in an episode of Live From E!
Jesse is currently the director of UCB Maude team Emerald. His other UCB credits include his pilot turned stage show, "CarteLOL"; UCB Maude teams Bombardier and ALL IN; and UCB Mess Hall team Bad Seed.
Jesse got a call back for Harold auditions once in 2011.
