Sketch 101: Sketch Comedy Writing

No prior sketch writing experience is necessary -- the only requirement for this class is a desire to write and learn. Students should have access to a computer and printer and be prepared to work outside of class, preparing sketches for presentation in every class. Students will be required to see two live sketch shows before the end of the course.

Jesse Esparza, teacher
Jesse Esparza is an actor, writer, and comedian from Sacramento, California. He moved to Los Angeles in 2009 where he began studying at UCB.
Jesse is a writer on the UCB Maude Team Bombardier. He was a performer on the UCB Mess Hall Team BAD SEED and a writer on the Maude Team ALL IN. He wrote, directed, and produced "Tonya Harding The Musical", in 2014, and wrote, directed, and starred in the 2016 UCB show "CarteLOL". He now directs the UCB Maude team Emerald.
Jesse was a writer for the 2015 CBS Diversity Showcase and was chosen as one of the writers in the 2017 National Hispanic Media Coalition Writers Program.
In 2019, Jesse was accepted as one of 8 writers in the Disney ABC Writers Program.
Jesse got a call back for Harold auditions once in 2011.
