Late Night Show Writing with Courtney Davis
Students in this class will work together to write, direct, and produce a late-night talk show! Students will work collaboratively to build the show from the ground up – from designing the style of the show, to writing material, to helping produce and direct segments. Each week, we will explore the different styles and approaches of current late-night talk shows, and work on building skills in writing monologue jokes, desk bits, topical sketches, and interview questions.
The culmination of the class will be a one hour late-night talk show, written by the students, and hosted by a current UCB performer. The last session will focus on writing and finalizing the show, which will then be tech rehearsed and put up at UCB Sunset later that evening. As part of the class, students must be available to attend both the tech rehearsal and the show.
Student will be held to weekly deadlines, and should be prepared to devote time outside of class to writing and rewriting assignments for every session.
Class Size: 8
Class meets at UCB Sunset Training Center; Room #215
