Students will be expected to devote time to writing and rewriting material outside of class.
There is no show for this class.
Students will be required to see two scripted shows at the UCB Theatre before the end of the course.
Class Size: Varies Intro To Branded Video Writing with Jacob Reed
Digital video marketing is a $135B a year industry looking for talent every single day. So how do you get a piece of the action, turning your comedy writing skills into tangible income, doing a job you actually like? Unfortunately, a comedy packet doesn’t cut it in the branded content world.
In this class, students will get a crash course in writing branded video content and come out with the skills and knowledge necessary to create a professional portfolio. In this eight-week course, students will learn how to leverage a honed comedic voice to elevate a brand’s message, concept, and pitch for a wide range in budget, voice, tone, audience, platform, and more.

Jacob Reed, teacher
Jacob Reed is a writer, director, and performer from San Diego. He has written and directed for Comedy Central, Nickelodeon, Funny or Die and Above Average. His TV writing credits include Matt Besser's Comedy Central sketch special This Show Will Get You High and the Emmy-nominated Night of Too Many Stars.
At UCB, Jacob performs Friday nights with Bangarang! He has performed in countless shows at the theatre over the last seven years including the improvised movie with Rough Cut, The UCB Thanksgiving Day Parade, Comedy Death Ray Sketch and as an occasional host of The UCB Variety Hour and Not Too Shabby. He has studied under Matt Besser, Ian Roberts, and Matt Walsh.
Jacob is also one half of the sketch group Tremendosaur. Reviewed by LAist as 'a two-man sketch comedy beast,' Tremendosaur has had multiple show runs at the UCB and been featured in The Hollywood Reporter, New York Magazine, The Wall Street Journal, and all over the information super internet. He is also the co-host of the Before You Were Funny Podcast.
