Improv 301
introduces students to the long form improvisation structure known as
"The Harold," developed by Del Close.

"The Harold" is a series of scenes inspired by a single suggestion that
fit together into one cohesive half hour piece.

Students learn how to

1) Perform openings

2) Create scenes inspired by an opening

3) Perform
"Group Games"

4) Second and third beats (returning to scenes later in
the piece).



Course meets for 8 sessions, each 2 hours long.

You cannot enroll in this course until you receive written notice that
you have successfully completed Improv 201. ONLY if 10 days have passed
since your last class and you have not received this

Students should have access to a computer and stable, robust internet access, webcam & microphone. 


This
online course uses Google Classroom and Google Meet programs to conduct
live sessions with your instructor and fellow students.

John Murray, teacher

John Murray John Murray started studying with the UCB in 2004. He currently is a member of the UCB House Team GOAT. In 2013 Esquire Magazine named John "Comedy's Next Almost Star". John has appeared in numerous web videos for the likes of Above Average, Funny Or Die and UCBComedy. He is the co-creator of the IFC Comedy Crib series "John & Geoff Are Married". John has appeared on NBC's 30 Rock, The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, The Cooking Channel and many television commercials. He is also the co-host of "Low Standards" which Time Out NY listed as one of "NYC Best Screening With Benefits". John happily lives in Brooklyn with his wife and kids. He's pumped to be performing at UCB.
