Understanding the fundamentals will be achieved through exercises and scene work in class, seeing improv shows at UCB Theatre and reading the UCB Comedy Improvisation Manual.
Students are required to see at least 2 improvised shows at UCB Theatre before the end of the course.
Course meets for 8 sessions, each 3 hours long.
Students will take part in a class performance, generally held at UCB Theatre.
Improv 101 students are required to acquire the Upright Citizens Brigade Comedy Improvisation Manual by class #2. The Manual can be purchased for non-refundable $25 at UCB Theatre, UCB Training Center NY, UCBstore.com or Amazon.com.

Gavin Speiller is a writer and performer living in New York. He can currently be seen improvising at the UCB Theatre every Saturday with Death By Roo Roo. Gavin has improvised in many, many shows at UCB (Asssscat, Outlook Of The Poet, Harold Night & more) and has written for many as well (Beneath Gristedes, Gavin Speiller Needs Your Approval, Now That's What I Call Rogue Elephant! & more). He's also written/acted in many web videos, traveled across the country with UCB's National Touring Company and been in a bunch of TV commercials. Gavin loves college basketball and dogs.
