This course introduces students to the long form improvisation structure known as "The Harold," developed by Del Close.
"The Harold" is a series of scenes inspired by a single suggestion that fit together into one cohesive half hour piece. Students learn how to 1) perform openings, 2) create scenes inspired by an opening 3) perform "group games," 4) second and third beats (returning to scenes later in the piece).
Course meets for 8 sessions, each 3 hours long.
Students will take part in a class performance, generally held at the UCB Theatre.
Students required to see at least 2 improvised shows at the UCB Theater before the end of the course.

Pam Murphy, teacher
Pam Murphy is a writer, actor, and comedian from New York. Pam performs every Tuesday at 7 with Tuesday Club at UCB Franklin. Pam's previous solo show, The C Word, was named The Best Solo Show of the Year by Time Out NY and nominated for an ECNY award.
Pam was a member of the long running team Death by Roo Roo and several house teams at the UCB Theatre in NY including Havana Clambake, Killebrew, Kill Your Darlings, DeCoster, and Standard Oil, and the UCB Maude Teams, Slow Burn and Arbuckle.
Pam has appeared on 30 Rock, Happy Endings, Key & Peele, Another Period, Angel from Hell, Welcome to Sweden, Comedy Bang! Bang!, Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, The Jeselnik Offensive, a slew of commercials and a ridiculous amount of internet videos. When not performing, Pamela spends her free time spoiling her skittish dog. That dog really loves her.
