Students will learn the fundamentals of long-form improvisation including: agreement, active listening, playing characters, playing truthfully and to the top of your intelligence and group mind.

Understanding the fundamentals will be achieved through exercises and scene work in class, seeing improv shows at UCB Theatre and reading the UCB Comedy Improvisation Manual.

Students are required to see at least 2 improvised shows at UCB Theatre before the end of the course.

Course meets for 8 sessions, each 3 hours long.

Students will take part in a class performance, generally held at UCB Theatre.

Improv 101 students are required to acquire the Upright Citizens Brigade Comedy Improvisation Manual by class #2. The Manual can be purchased for non-refundable $25 at UCB Theatre, UCB Training Center NY, UCBstore.com or Amazon.com.

Class meets Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays & Fridays from 3-6pm.  



Due to the nature of the intensive class, make-ups are much harder to schedule.

Tara Copeland, teacher

Tara Copeland Tara Copeland has been been a member of the UCB community since 1997 and was a member of the Harold Team Mother at UCBNY for over ten years.  Other shows included The Third Degree, Commedia Del High School, People People, Ms. Jackson and Diamond Lion.  She can be seen every Thursday at 7pm at UCB Sunset with the musical improv house team Magic To Do and is a regular performer in the monthly show, Gravid Water. She also created the Musical Improv Program at UCB.
