 This course introduces students to the long form improvisation structure known as "The Harold," developed by Del Close.

"The Harold" is a series of scenes inspired by a single suggestion that fit together into one cohesive half hour piece. Students learn how to 1) perform openings, 2) create scenes inspired by an opening 3) perform "group games," 4) second and third beats (returning to scenes later in the piece).

Course meets for 8 sessions, each 3 hours long.

Students will take part in a class performance, generally held at the UCB Theatre.

Students required to see at least 2 improvised shows at the UCB Theater before the end of the course.

Mike Leffingwell, teacher

Mike Leffingwell Mike Leffingwell has written material for The Onion News Network, Playboy.com, Marc Maron's Air America radio show, the Late Late Show, My Damn Channel and Reader's Digest, and has worked as a staff writer for Hulu and Reelz Channel. On TV Mike has appeared on Conan, Talk Show with Spike Feresten, MANswers, and in several national commercials. He was also in the films iSteve and The Mad Ones. Mike is a longtime teacher and performer at UCB LA, where he has performed with Daily Sheriff, Typhoon, Fun Town, several Harold teams, and in his one-man sketch show Stupid Husbands. Currently Mike is working as a staff writer for Netflix's The New Mr. Peabody and Sherman Show, and can be seen at UCB in 12 ANGRY MEN: THE ONE MAN SHOW. Mike Mike Mike!
