Students will learn the fundamentals of long-form improvisation including: agreement, active listening, playing characters, playing truthfully and to the top of your intelligence and group mind.

Understanding the fundamentals will be achieved through exercises and scene work in class, seeing improv shows at UCB Theatre and reading the UCB Comedy Improvisation Manual.

Students are required to see at least 2 improvised shows at UCB Theatre before the end of the course.

Course meets for 8 sessions, each 3 hours long.

Students will take part in a class performance, generally held at UCB Theatre.

Improv 101 students are required to acquire the Upright Citizens Brigade Comedy Improvisation Manual by class #2. The Manual can be purchased for non-refundable $25 at UCB Theatre, UCB Training Center NY, UCBstore.com or Amazon.com.

Lou Gonzalez, teacher

Lou Gonzalez Lou is a comedian/writer/director born and raised in the Bronx. You can see him performing every Sunday with Higgins. You can also see him perform with the TLC of improv: The Mannequin Room. He was recently a performer in the 2019 CBS Diversity Showcase. He's a fierce queen who has been doing sketch comedy and improv in NYC since 2009.
