Students will learn the fundamentals of long-form improvisation. Core concepts covered include using character agreement to make your scenes succeed, developing character, character status, object and environment work, “playing at the top of your intelligence,†and heightening (finding ways to make your scenes get funnier from start to finish).
This course also introduces the specific vocabulary of the UCB Training Center.
This course meets for 8 sessions that are each 3 hours long. At the end of the course, students will take part in a class performance, generally held at the UCB Theatre. Graduation is also contingent upon students seeing at least two improvised shows at the UCB Theater before the end of the course.
Class Size: 16 Students Class meets at Lyric Hyperion Theatre in Silver Lake

Hal Rudnick, Teacher
Hal has been doing improv for over ten years. At UCBTLA he has studied with Matt Besser, Matt Walsh, Ian Roberts, and Sean Conroy among others. He is currently on the UCB Harold team, The Great War. His sketch group, The Midnight Show, performs monthly at UCB. Other shows he has enjoyed being a part of at Upright Citizens Brigade include Tournament of Nerds!, his one man sketch show Adventures in Loneliness, Freak Dance: The Forbidden Dirty Boogaloo, and Comedy Death-Ray.
Prior to UCB, Hal was on a Harold team at iOWest and spent a year in the Groundlings Sunday Company. He has been in numerous commercials, countless web videos, and several feature films. Hal is currently a writer and on air correspondent on Fox/Fuel TV's The Daily Habit.
