Students will learn the fundamentals of long-form improvisation. Core concepts covered include using character agreement to make your scenes succeed, developing character, character status, object and environment work, “playing at the top of your intelligence,†and heightening (finding ways to make your scenes get funnier from start to finish).
This course also introduces the specific vocabulary of the UCB Training Center.
This course meets for 8 sessions that are each 3 hours long. At the end of the course, students will take part in a class performance, generally held at the UCB Theatre. Graduation is also contingent upon students seeing at least two improvised shows at the UCB Theater before the end of the course.
Class Size: 16 Students Class meets at MetaTheatre in West Hollywood

Todd Fasen, Teacher
Todd Fasen has been performing and taking classes at UCBTLA since 2006. He's studied with Matt Walsh, Ian Roberts and Matt Besser of the Upright Citizens Brigade plus Seth Morris, Billy Merritt, Sean Conroy, and many others. He started improvising in 2000 as a member of the Vassar College improv troupe boringly named Improv.
Todd currently performs weekly at UCBTLA with his groups Convoy and Sentimental Lady. He is a teacher at UCBTLA as well as a member of the UCB Tour Co. Todd had a recurring role on the critically acclaimed FX Series Terriers, and co-created and starred in a pilot for Comedy Central. He has also appeared on Reno 911!, and in various national commercials. Other UCBTLA credits include Thirty:30,Comedy Death-Ray, CDR Sketch, Quick and Funny Musicals,and Sketch Cram.
